Homeopathy in Action~

I am going to share a few heartfelt testimonials from women I have worked with over the years so that you can hear from a grassroots perspective how homeopathy can impact your life.

“I believe that homeopathy has kept my children and I both healthy and happy.  I found homeopathy after already delivering my son at the hospital, despite wanting and trying for a home birth.

For my next two pregnancies, I used homeopathy to battle all sorts of pregnancy related issues, from morning sickness, to nasal and sinus congestion, to turning a breech and then a transverse baby.  Homeopathy supported two home births following my son, and both home births were most lovely experiences I could have ever wished for.  With remedies, we were able to make my contractions more effective, relieve back labour, and promote milk supply.  Both my daughters were born in a warm, loving, quiet environment, surrounded by those who loved them and they thrived from the moment they were born.

As my children grow and play, I find we are able to manage when we get sick with ease.  We use homeopathy to help heal bad bumps and bruises more quickly, to turn fevers around more quickly, and to avoid flu like symptoms (sniffles and coughs) from escalating into more serious issues like bacterial infections, such as ear or throat infections.  I believe with homeopathy, my children are vital, strong and healthy!”

Midwifery Series #3 – Top FIVE remedies to Fire UP labour

mom and babe

Remedies are used to lift fear, create productive, rhythmical contractions and reassure women and babies that they are safe and all is well.

Occasionally women need assistance at different points in their labour to move the momentum forward.  This may be for a variety of reasons such as:

  • Gelsemium 200c – performance anxiety – labour is going along well and the midwives arrive then everything stops or they arrive at the hospital and things peter out.
  • Pulsatilla 200C or Phosphorus 1Mrupture of membranes with no contractions – often women are on a time schedule,  according to the community standards of the hospital – most health facilities want to see active labour within 18-24 hours of ruptured membranes.
  • Arsenicum 200Cstall in dilation at 6 cm – this is a point in labour where things normally really take off.  It can feel very out of control and frightening for some people.  In response to this,  their bodies slow things down.
  • Aconite 1Mfreezing up at a previous traumatic point in labour – our bodies remember previous birth experiences. If a woman stalled at a certain point in her birth and had to have an intervention,  her body often repeats this action in the next birth – even though she may not consciously know she is at that same point.

Gelsemium 200C – feeling exhausted, heavy, as if too tired to continue labour.  Gets nervous and sleepy as midwives arrive and set up or they arrive at the hospital.  Contractions slow down and labour can cease.

Pulsatilla 200C – weepy and frightened at the thought of going into labour- false labour – contractions stop and start, appear in the front, back, down the legs – key word is changeability.  Women needing Pulsatilla will not want to do anything to bring labour on- such as go for a walk – they are frightened and want to hide from the experience.

Phosphorus 1M – Phosphorus women may be overwhelmed by the rupture of membranes.  They are alarmed by what is about to happen and fearful that their baby may be at risk.  Phosphorus women tend to have big reactions to medications and allopathic induction will affect them strongly.

Arsenicum 200C – Arsenicum women tend to be A type personalities that strongly dislike being out of control.  They often stall at either 6cm or in the second stage of labour.  They strongly dislike the sensation of pushing.

Once you have picked a remedy that matches, give two pellets of the indicated potency.

Remedies are widely available at most health food stores, from homeopaths and naturopaths.

Once the remedy has been given wait within the 1:10 time frame – for example – if membranes have been ruptured for 1 hour then you will see a change within 6 minutes.

A change means contractions starting, bloody show, position change, new attitude evolving etc.  Once you see action just observe, there is no need to repeat the remedy once change is initiated.

HOW do you want your Birth to Feel?

underwater yoga bliss

How do you want your birth to feel? This may seem irrelevant but it is the KEY.

Land on a feeling – and I suggest you go general with this – so – things like steady, present, in my body, sure...

Once you get the language, then start to practice. This is the most valuable prenatal work you can do.

Access every single way you can evoke that feeling in your life.

Once you get a hold of it and are able to maintain it, you begin to go in and out of it, you crave it and create it – you will notice that things in your life are now matching this feeling. You are creating situations that feed your desire. This is a biochemical event, a real, physical happening in your body.

So if your thoughts effect your body and your life – how could this impact a baby and a birth?

This pathway is accessible, free, available at any time. Therapies such as homeopathy and chiropractic support this kind of neurological event int he brain. The remedies remind and suggest that you find your way back to the path. When you get off track, don’t worry, once you feel the goodness of that feeling – you won’t easily forget.

It is who you were born to be. It is the knowing and optimistic state of the child you were, believing in your body and being o.k. with doing something new and fresh.

Birth and Body Memory

Our bodies hold information and release it to us in the perfect way.  During birth there seem to be certain points in which our bodies will either move ahead or wait for us to understand the piece of information it is holding.

What if you could open up this dialogue and reassure your body as it hesitates and wonders? Remedies are the bridge between you and your body.

Induction is about fear.  When I do a homeopathic induction I am inquiring about fear.  This is the block.  The remedy merely acts to keep you present, allow you to grow bigger then your fear and move you forward.  Each remedy has its own specific fear.  When I speak to someone about an induction I am asking all the details about the fear, how it came about, where it has popped up most strongly etc.  This fear is big enough to stop or stall labour.  This is the missing element of medicine.  We can numb out pain but there is nothing to address fear during labour, postpartum or pregnancy.  This fear is translated to our babies.  Is it not important to consider?

If Back Labour is your thing….

heart back

Did you know that back labour – the babe in a posterior position – creates a longer, more painful labour? Perhaps you are only too well aware of this having endured a posterior birth.

Kali Carb 200C will ask the baby to turn.  This can be taken any time in later pregnancy (35 weeks onward), to induce labour (to create optimal pressure to dilate the cervix) or during labour.

Regular consultations with  a chiropractor that specializes in pregnancy is also an incredibly useful support to assist optimal fetal positioning.

You and the baby both are aware that there is a faster, easier way to descend and emerge – the remedy – kali carb 200C merely reminds you both of this knowing.  For more information on remedies to take during labour and postpartum please consult my e-book –

The Homeopathic Babe – Arnica for Birth Trauma, Car Accidents and Head Injuries

Today I am beginning a series of posts specifically aimed towards babies and the use of homeopathy.

I would love to cater to the needs of all the mammas out there reading this so please comment and send me your questions and I will respond with homeopathic knowledge for you.

We will begin simply with Arnica.  Arnica is the most frequently used remedy in my house.

Helmets or Arnica?

Arnica for children and babies can be used in a 200C potency. A dose is two pellets, depending on the severity of the injury or shock you may need to repeat the dose a few times over the space of an hour.  It is just fine  to touch the pellets to give them to your baby.  It is best given as close to the time of the incident as possible, for this reason I suggest carrying this remedy in your diaper bag, purse or car.

Arnica is used to treat:

Birth Trauma

Babies that enter the world with shoulder dystocia, forceps or vacuum extractions need Arnica.  There will be bruising, swelling and pain associated with those injuries and Arnica will deal with the shock and pain as well as speed the recovery along.  This will reduce the possibility of interference with breastfeeding as when babies are injured in these ways they are often unable to turn their heads or open their jaws wide enough to breastfeed optimally.

Shock

Shock may happen for a baby in a situation such as  a car accident with your infant.  Nurse your baby ASAP and then give them and yourself a dose of Arnica.  This will reduce shock and muscle strain from movements such as whiplash.

Head Injuries and Falls

Babies do fall off of the bed, the change table, onto wood floors when learning to walk, against counter tops and coffee tables.  When this happens give them a dose of Arnica 200C to reduce the likelihood of head injuries, to reduce pain and eliminate bruising and swelling.

If you have questions about how to use Arnica please feel free to visit my website – http://www.pipermartin.com and email me directly.  Arnica has many other uses during pregnancy and postpartum and outside of those conditions as well.  To access more info. on using homeopathy during pregnancy check out my two e-books available on my website – http://www.pipermartin.com
