Pulsatilla – the windflower~ is blooming right now. Early spring is the time that this plant blooms and moves with the wind and rain of the season. Pulsatilla is a remedy that is very common to see as a remedy state in pregnancy and in children.
Pulsatilla is the remedy to remind a breech or transverse baby that the most anatomically correct way to be born is in an anterior, vertex position. This may not be the case for all babies, I do think there are babies that do just fine being born breech. But for those that can change the position safely, Pulsatilla creates the gentle reminder and the mother and baby create a more optimal fetal position together.
This happens within 24 hours of taking a single dose of Pulsatilla 200C and quite often the mother is not aware of it happening. I have clinically seen this occur up to the 39th week of pregnancy.
This is a safe option to explore. The remedy will only work if the change of position is to the advantage of the baby. If the cord is too short or tangled to make the switch, nothing will happen. If the placement of the placenta will be compromised by a move, then again, the baby will not turn. Homeopathy is safe because it ONLY works with the body, it can’t override the body. It makes suggestions and the body can choose to respond or not.
Pulsatilla is also very helpful for:
fear of labour
jealousy in pregnancy
long first stage of labour that stops and starts
indecisive about planning for birth
A Pulsatilla baby is usually born to a Pulsatilla mother. These babies will strongly prefer to be carried every moment, mainly by their mothers. They need a lot of attention, tending, adjusting and adapting on the part of the mother. They weep often but are quickly consoled by cuddling. They are changeable babies and very sensitive to being alone – even for a moment. You will observe all of these same characteristics present in the mother as well.
thick, yellow discharges – eyes, nose or ears
remedy for chickenpox – still wants to snuggle despite the itching
thirstless – have to beg this child to take sips
Pulsatilla 200C is an appropriate dose for both pregnant women and children. Please visit my website for more information. I offer online consults, learning opportunities and ebooks on my site. Thank you for reading and your feedback!
I am going to share a few heartfelt testimonials from women I have worked with over the years so that you can hear from a grassroots perspective how homeopathy can impact your life.
“I believe that homeopathy has kept my children and I both healthy and happy. I found homeopathy after already delivering my son at the hospital, despite wanting and trying for a home birth.
For my next two pregnancies, I used homeopathy to battle all sorts of pregnancy related issues, from morning sickness, to nasal and sinus congestion, to turning a breech and then a transverse baby. Homeopathy supported two home births following my son, and both home births were most lovely experiences I could have ever wished for. With remedies, we were able to make my contractions more effective, relieve back labour, and promote milk supply. Both my daughters were born in a warm, loving, quiet environment, surrounded by those who loved them and they thrived from the moment they were born.
As my children grow and play, I find we are able to manage when we get sick with ease. We use homeopathy to help heal bad bumps and bruises more quickly, to turn fevers around more quickly, and to avoid flu like symptoms (sniffles and coughs) from escalating into more serious issues like bacterial infections, such as ear or throat infections. I believe with homeopathy, my children are vital, strong and healthy!”
In the immediate postpartum women that have had fluids during labour often find themselves swollen and retaining that fluid. Their breasts can become extra, extra-large and all their tissues seem congested and full. Our bodies will resolve this eventually but the remedy – Apis 200Cwill push that process along, asking the body to sweat and pee out all the excess fluid. This may help some little babes latch with less effort and allow mammas access to their regular shoes!
Once that hurdle is jumped hydration is a very important aspect of postpartum care. This is one place that partners can definitely help. Offering water, keeping supplies of good quality drinks on hand, serving foods with high water components are all helpful ways of keeping the fluid balanced in a nursing mother.
Dehydration in a nursing mother can look like:
small amount of urine for the amount of fluid going in – possibility of urinary tract infections
desire for carbonated drinks – especially carbonated water
milk supply can ultimately be affected
Considering that every system in our bodies work on or with water – it is a vital piece to pay attention to.
If you do feel dehydrated – take Phosphoric Acid 200C– once a day for three days.
Make up some natural labourade or drink Gatorade cut with water.
Make sure every time you sit down to nurse you have an extra-large glass of water by your side.
Minimize the amount of coffee, tea and pop that you consume as these drinks will further dehydration.
If you have more specific questions or require homeopathic guidance please contact via email – I do offer on-line support.
The best way I know to boost your milk supply is to go to bed with your baby. I know, I know – almost every woman I know will say – I Can’t DO that! I have other children, laundry, cooking, cleaning, work, things to do!! But it’s not really the things to DO – it’s that most women have NEVER and I mean NEVER just spent time relaxing and focusing on one thing. Now the funny part of this is, is that the one thing that needs focusing on, is keeping another human alive, but still – it seems like that just isn’t enough!
So it is up to us, as women, to take this whole concept of breastfeeding up a notch. We are keeping another human alive with our breast milk. This requires:
tucking into bed with your baby skin to skin
support and a feeling of safety
a mind that believes what you are spending time doing is THE most important thing.
Yes, you can pull off nursing while doing a million other things but why? Will this time come around again? Will it really matter if there is a small window of time in which your house is not the cleanest and you aren’t on top of your email?
Get the whole family into the quiet, postpartum welcome for this babe – teach your children how to experience this transition gently and softly.
If and when you have honestly gone to bed for three weeks, you have rested, chilled out, drank a ton of water, eaten all the offerings of everyone you know, accepted support and allowed yourself to indulge in nursing to its fullest – IF then you still feel like you need help boosting your supply – consult with me. There are many homeopathic remedies to encourage your body and your mind towards this possibility. But try the bed first.

Homeopathic medicine is incredibly effective for the treatment of Mastitis. It is safe for mothers and babies, will resolve the problem quickly and without any invasive treatment.
In most cases mastitis is a signal of overextending, mothers that are trying to do too much too soon after birth. Dehydration is also a large factor in mastitis.
Mastitis and a recurrence of bleeding are two of the most common signs that mothers need more rest, water, food and rest! Heed these signals and all will be well.
worse at 3:00 am and 3:00 pm
fever, headache, flushed face, glazed eyes
worse on the right side – breast has red streaks
HOT to touch, DRY and HOT
dry mouth, dry lips – dehydrated
severe headache, worse from ANY motion
breasts are painful from ANY motion
bad mood, irritable
slow onset, low grade fever
cannot bear a bra or any touch
It is most beneficial if the remedy is taken as soon as the first symptoms appear. Take two pellets of the indicated remedy and wait. You should see a change within the 1:10 time frame – for example if the pain has been present for one hour – 60min then the symptoms should shift within 6 min. Nurse the baby as often as possible on the painful side and line up the baby’s chin with the duct that seems to be the most affected. This will drain that duct and clear any blockage.
If you need more guidance in choosing a remedy or managing mastitis please feel free to email me for personal support.
Pulsatilla is a very common remedy to see in pregnancy, labour and postpartum. If a remedy works well for you in pregnancy – i.e. it addresses your morning sickness, then it is highly likely that will also be useful for induction, to augment labour or to support any breastfeeding challenges. Pulsatilla is a remedy that appears to follow a woman from pregnancy to postpartum and often it will be the first remedy to consider should the baby need a remedy.
Pulsatilla emotionally looks like:
looks for comfort and reassurance and allows this
emotional about other children, fear of them feeling abandoned
looks to those around her for guidance instead of tapping into her own
Physically this translates as:
discharges that are yellow, thick and emerging from eyes, nose, ears – newborn goopy eyes
craves touch no matter what – even while in transition prefer to be cuddled and touched
morning sickness that changes day by day – different triggers, different times, different reactions to food.
indecisiveness is reflected in the baby assuming many positions during pregnancy and often goes breech, labour that starts and stops and is experienced all through the body – contractions in legs, bum, back, abdomen, unable to commit to the labour taking Pulsatilla will create a regular rhythm to the labour and is the gesture of commitment that is needed to progress.
goes into labour only when children are in bed or being cared for – reluctant to really be in labour without the midwives, husband, mother, support team that she has assembled all around her – within sight
very changeable milk supply and supply that is easily effected by food, company, upset, discharges etc.
Pulsatilla is a plant remedy, made of the wind flower – it blooms in the spring and softly blows in the wind – a way to remember its soft, changeable nature and being a plant its reaction to and awareness of its environment.
use Pulsatilla for babies if you have a baby with separation anxiety – by that I mean if you cannot walk out of a room without the baby weeping.
This is such a useful remedy for siblings that may be feeling jealous and becoming very weepy and whiny as a means of expressing their feelings. Pulsatilla will reassure them of their stability in the family.

Use homeopathy to help your baby make a smooth transition. Remedies can assist with:
traumatic births – forceps, vacuum and c-sections all have an effect on the baby. Simple remedies like Arnica and Aconite are incredibly effective for soothing head trauma, bruising, shock and fear.
breastfeeding challenges – homeopathy will address milk flow issues, mastitis, latching difficulties and failure to thrive in babes.
skin ailments – use homeopathy to ease the way through diaper rashes, eczema and cradle cap.
discharge from the eyes – breast milk is the most amazing medicine you have right at hand for this – but if you need a little extra support then homeopathy works beautifully to help babies move mucus from their eyes, out through their nose.
Using homeopathy from the beginning keeps your baby clear on how capable their bodies are. Babies respond quickly and easily to homeopathic remedies, they are easy to administer and it is magical to watch the effect. There are no side effects and you can feel good about addressing not only physical aspects of your babe but supporting them mentally/emotionally from the start.

Do you have an adrenaline addiction? A constant state of being “ON”? I find this is one of the major factors that interfere with mothers and babes having a successful breastfeeding relationship. It is very difficult to go from being ON in your pace and lifestyle to then dedicating hours and hours to sitting, connecting, nursing and being present.
This can often drive new mothers crazy! What’s the solution?
Practice being quiet and doing NOTHING.
Go to bed 15 min. early and just chill.
Sit and Stare
sounds strange? it will make a difference when it comes time to sit down and be present every 2 hours with a babe.
This is the first connection your baby makes on earth. Be there for it.
If you decide to tandem nurse or nurse during pregnancy you need to show yourself some serious LOVE.
LOVE in the form of:
BEAUTIFUL, nutritious food
PEOPLE who believe in what you are doing and appreciate the effort it takes
If you have access to these aspects then you can feel confident that your body and your mind will be able to share the considerable gift of giving your children amazing nutrition, love and connection. I love thinking about how the babies who share milk are connected, what goes on between them at the breast and how that carries into their lives.
