In most cases mastitis is a signal of overextending, mothers that are trying to do too much too soon after birth. Dehydration is also a large factor in mastitis.

Mastitis and a recurrence of bleeding are two of the most common signs that mothers need more rest, water, food and rest! Heed these signals and all will be well.

Belladonna 1M

  • sudden onset
  • worse at 3:00 am and 3:00 pm
  • fever, headache, flushed face, glazed eyes
  • worse on the right side – breast has red streaks
  • HOT to touch, DRY and HOT
  • throbbing sensations

Bryonia 200C

  • dry mouth, dry lips – dehydrated
  • severe headache, worse from ANY motion
  • breasts are painful from ANY motion
  • bad mood, irritable
  • slow onset, low grade fever
  • cannot bear a bra or any touch

It is most beneficial if the remedy is taken as soon as the first symptoms appear. Take two pellets of the indicated remedy and wait.  You should see a change within the 1:10 time frame – for example if the pain has been present for one hour – 60min then the symptoms should shift within 6 min.  Nurse the baby as often as possible on the painful side and line up the baby’s chin with the duct that seems to be the most affected.  This will drain that duct and clear any blockage.
